GenAI tools offer secure integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) directly in your analytic workflows. Use GenAI tools to solve your unique business problems. You can also use GenAI-assisted tools for smart data preparation to support your complex data and analytics needs.
Known Issue with Public Preview Workflows
Workflows created with the Public Preview version of the GenAI tools don’t run as expected. To fix the issue, select each LLM Override and Prompt tool to initialize them. In some cases, replace the Public Preview LLM Override tool with the updated version from the GenAI tool palette.
What Is Included?
GenAI Tools
Use GenAI tools to securely integrate approved LLMs directly into your analytic workflows and enhance your ability to solve your business needs. You can find these GenAI tools in the GenAI tool palette:
Prompt Tool: Send prompts to a Large Language Model (LLM) and then receive the model’s response as an output.
LLM Override Tool: Select and configure the LLM provider connection that you want to use with the GenAI tools in your workflow.
GenAI-Assisted Tools
Note
GenAI-assisted tools are currently in Public Preview. They might have known issues, might not include all intended features, and is subject to change without notice.
In addition to the GenAI tools, GenAI-assisted tools are available for even smarter data preparation, blending, and joining. You can find these GenAI-assisted tools in the GenAI tool palette:
Invoice Extractor Tool: Extract line items and metadata from invoices.
Precision Match Tool: Perform a fuzzy match-like operation on string data to standardize different variations of the same phrase to a single value.
Schema Fit Tool: Transform Source data to match the format of Target data.
Synthetic Input Tool: Create synthetic data with GenAI and get started building workflows before you have access to the real data.
How Do I Get Access?
GenAI tools are available for Full users on Professional and Enterprise Editions. Designer now includes the GenAI tools in the base installation, so you don’t need to install them separately.
To get started, download and install Designer from Alteryx One.
Access Controls for Admins
Users with the Full User role have access to GenAI tools by default. To limit access to these tools, assign a custom role instead that has the Gen AI Tools capability disabled. Learn more about user roles and capabilities.
Update GenAI Tools
Updates for the GenAI tools release more frequently than Designer. A separate installer is available for such updates.
To update the GenAI tools, sign in to your Alteryx One workspace and follow these steps:
On the Alteryx One landing page, locate Designer and then select Download.
On the Product Downloads page, select GenAI Tools from the list of Designer download options.
Select Download.
Open Designer and then open the GenAI tools YXI file you just downloaded to start the update process.
How do I Connect to an LLM?
Before you can use the GenAI tools, you must first create a connection in Alteryx One to your LLM. Once you connect your LLM, you can select it in Designer from the LLM Override or Prompt tool.
Access Controls for Admins
To create LLM connections in Alteryx One, you must have the LLM Connectivity capability assigned to your role. roles have this capability by default.
Language Support
Language and multibyte character support for input and output data varies by LLM provider and selected model. For more information, please refer to your LLM provider’s documentation.
Software Requirements
GenAI tools work on Designer 2025.2 or newer. GenAI tools aren’t supported on Server. To automate workflows with GenAI tools, you can use Cloud Execution for Desktop in Alteryx One.
System Requirements
To run GenAI tools, your computer must meet the same system requirements as Designer.
